Isabel Fingerless Gloves

This week, in-between figuring out this blog's layout and how to add useful widgets and lists whilst not ruining the aesthetic I've also been making a pair of fingerless gloves for one of my sisters, as her birthday is coming up in November, and with all the crafting I want to do for holiday gifts I wanted to start this one early. I actually finished the first glove in a day (although it was on a Monday, so I spent two hours at my fiber arts group and knocked a bunch of it out then). I'm onto the right glove now and it will likely be finished tomorrow.

I'm using a worsted weight Malabrigo yarn that I got in a grab bag from JimmyBeansWool.com. They put bags of three different skeins together that can be ordered and I think they were $24 for the three. The colorway of the three was unknown to me, but I knew they were all worsted weight merino and 100 grams, so I thought it would be nice getting yarn without picking the color. I also got a lovely golden color that I used for a couple hats, as well as a lavender. It should be noted that these didn't have dye lots, for one reason or another (although I seem to remember that these skeins were used to test their dye recipes, so were very small batches that they might end up tweaking for their larger lots). It should also be noted that I have found Malabrigo's worsted weight to be a bit thinner than the standard worsted weight I am used to. I don't know if it's the way their yarn is plied, or if there's another reason, but I find that any time I use their "Rios" base yarn I have to size up my needle to hit gauge.

The pattern for these is the Isabel Fingerless Glove pattern by Apiary Knits. I found it very easy to read and didn't struggle with any of it, however, it uses a Russian bind off which I find a bit tight for a pair of gloves. If I make these for myself I'll use one with a bit more give, as I think the more rigid bind off is annoying when used in placed where mobility is a must such as the hands. Other than that I wouldn't change a thing.

Once I finish the other glove and they've been blocked I'll post a photo, as I expect the lace to look even better after washing.
